Dungun: Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said today expressed disappointment with the Works Ministry for the delay in calling for tenders for the second phase of the East Coast Expressway involving two abandoned routes.
He said the ministry should call for tenders to appoint more responsible contractors to complete the 13.7-km Paka-Kemaman route and the 3.7-km Mardi Station-Ibok route as soon as possible.
“Any further delay would only be detrimental to all quarters, particularly the state government, because the cost is always going up,” he told reporters after a working visit which took him from the Gemuruh toll plaza in Kuala Terengganu to the Bukit Besi toll plaza.
Ahmad said it would only take the newly appointed contractors six months to complete the projects as the Mardi Station-Ibok route was 60 per cent complete and the Paka-Kemaman route was 50 per cent complete. — Bernama
