BESUT: Six foreign construction workers cheated death when the building they were working on at Padang Astaka, Jerteh collapsed at 1pm Thursday.
Three of them – two Indonesians and one Bangladeshi – crawled out of the building while two other Bangladeshis and another Indonesian were trapped in the rubble.
Besut district police chief Supt Kamaruddin Zakaria told a press conference here that the victims were being treated at district hospital for injuries and shock.
The six victims were identified as Suksan Ali, 25, Fandi, 20 and Ari, 31, from Indonesia and Raju, 42, Munawir, 20 and Zilo, 40, from Bangladesh.
“The incident is believed to have occurred after the concrete roof of the building collapsed as workers were adding cement.”
Kamaruddin said three cranes and two bulldozers were used to rescue the three construction workers trapped in the rubble.
The rescue operation, which took more than two hours, involved 15 members of Fire & Rescue Department from Jerteh, eight members of Civil Defence Department and 20 police officers. – Bernama
