KUALA TERENGGANU: A 36-year-old lorry attendant is feared to have drowned 50 metres off the coast of Kampung Tanjung Batu Satu.
Suhaimi Abdullah had shouted for help while at sea but his elder brother Shaifuddin Abdullah, 38, and three cousins, who were on shore, thought that he was joking until they lost sight of him in the 3.30pm incident Thursday.
Shaifuddin said they did not join Suhaimi in the swim because they did not know how to swim.
The five of them had just returned from a long fishing trip to sea, he added.
Terengganu Fire & Rescue assistant director Mohd Zulkhairul Razilah said 17 personnel, including five from the scuba unit, were involved in the search for Suhaimi.
Personnel from the Civil Defence Department and the police as well as villagers are also involved in the search. – Bernama
