BESUT: A plucky six-year-old girl managed to escape a fire which razed her home in Kampung Peng-kalan Sentul here by hiding under her bed.
Alias Manaf, 37, said he was sleeping in his bedroom when he was awakened by his eight-year-old daughter Nor Anis Sanisa, who told him that the room was on fire.
He quickly awakened his wife Nur Idawati Abdullah, 33, and brought their four children, aged between three months and four years, out of the house.
Alias said when they managed to run out of the house, he suddenly noticed that his daughter Shahirah was missing.
“I ran into her room, but to my horror, I couldn’t find her,” he said.
“I was about to give up when I noticed her two feet jutting out from underneath her bed.
“I quickly grabbed her and ran to safety. It’s a miracle that she was unhurt,” he said, adding that Shahi-rah even picked up a blanket and covered herself as they were dashing out.
Alias, who works as a labourer, said although his house was destroy-ed, “what is most important is that my family is safe”.
Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Zuzuki Safie said six firemen were dispatched to the area after receiving an emergency call.
“We managed to put out the fire within an hour,” he said, adding that the cause of the fire was being investigated.
