KUALA TERENGGANU: Despite losing his parents to cancer, Wan Muhammad Wan Lokman persevered through the ordeal and achieved success when he scored 5As in the recent Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR).
The 12-year-old SK Bukit Tunggal pupil lost his father Wan Lokman Wan Abas to colon cancer when he was three while his mother Laila Harun fell victim to bone cancer two years ago.
Instead of giving up, the orphan studied harder than ever with his older brother Wan Ahmad Bilal, 21, as his source of inspiration.
“My brother now takes care of me and funds my studies. I always think of him and my parents whenever I study,” he said yesterday.
Wan Muhammad, the youngest of eight children, said his other siblings were still studying while his eldest sister was married.
He said his brother, who runs a food stall near their home in Kampung Bukit Tunggal, was like a surrogate father to him.
“He works day and night to support me and my other siblings,” he said, adding that he dedicated his good results to Wan Ahmad Bilal.
