KEMAMAN (Star): Eight cars were buried under rubble after a landslide at KM139 of the Jabor-Jeranganu road early Wednesday.
It is learnt that a 12m curb collapsed around 3.30am, trapping the occupants of eight vehicles along the trunk road.
As of press time, five vehicles and their occupants have been rescued by emergency personnel which included police, firemen as well as from other enforcement agencies.
Several staff members of the Public Works Department were also on hand to clear the rubble.
No casualties were reported.
Kemaman OCPD Supt Che Suza Che Hitam said the incident occurred following continuous rain the past week, which destroyed the road’s foundation, leading to the collapse.
“Rescue efforts are still being carried out.
“We are not sure of the number (of those trapped) yet but hope to rescue all of them as soon as possible,” he said.
